General description
C16H18N3SCl. It is a major basic histological dye in pharmacology and microbiology. This heterocyclic aromatic chemical appears as a dark green solid powder, changing to blue in an aqueous solution. Methylene blue is tested for histological and and bacteriological staining, and as a constituent of Wright’s blood stain.
Application
- in the preparation of methylene blue (MB) solution
- to stain zymograms -to label the injection site in the tissue slices
- to pre-treat mice via oral gavage to study its effects on noise-induced hearing loss
