General description
Triethanolamine (TEA) belongs to the family of ethanolamine. It includes the properties of both amines and alcohols. Addition of TEA to an acidic buffer facilitates the determination of fluoride in inorganic orthophosphates by using a fluoride-selective electrode.
Application
Triethanolamine hydrochloride has been used:
- in the preparation of triethanolamine buffer
- in rinsing the digested sections, prepared for in situ hybridization
- as a component of solution A to prepare TA-complement haemolysis buffer (TA-CHB)
Biochem/physiol Actions
Triethanolamine hydrochloride acts as a surfactant or pH adjuster. It is also used as an emulsifier in cosmetics and several topical medications.
