Application
Lithium tetrafluoroborate (LiBF₄) is used as an electrolyte salt in lithium-ion batteries. It contributes to the overall ionic conductivity of the electrolyte and helps in achieving better battery performance. LiBF₄ is used as an electrolyte additive in supercapacitors to enhance their performance, particularly in terms of energy density and charge-discharge cycles. It can be used as a catalyst in various chemical reactions. Its properties can help improve the efficiency and selectivity of catalytic processes. In a study, it was reported that lithium tetrafluoroborate can serve as an efficient catalyst for the intermolecular aza-Michael addition of aromatic amines to electron-deficient alkenes. The suitability of this catalyst for intramolecular aza-Michael addition, resulting in the formation of 2-aryl-2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-ones, was also described. Lithium tetrafluoroborate is a mild Lewis acid for Diels-Alder reactions. It is used as a catalyst for mild and efficient aminolysis of oxiranes.
