General description

Sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (sulfonated PEEK) is a specialized polymeric material derived from the modification of polyetheretherketone (PEEK). By incorporating sulfonic acid groups into its structure, we obtain a versatile, high-performance powder with a molecular weight of 150 kDa and a degree of sulfonation of 70%. This alteration introduces new properties and enhances its performance in specific applications, making sulfonated PEEK an attractive material for a wide range of uses. Its unique characteristics include excellent thermal and chemical stability, high proton conductivity, and resistance to degradation under harsh conditions.

Application

The exceptional properties of sulfonated PEEK make it an ideal choice for various applications, most notably in fuel cell technology and water purification. In fuel cells, sulfonated PEEK functions as a proton exchange membrane (PEM), allowing the transport of protons while preventing the mixing of gases. Its ability to operate at high temperatures and maintain proton conductivity contributes to the overall efficiency of fuel cell systems. Additionally, sulfonated PEEK′s high proton conductivity is leveraged in water purification and desalination processes, facilitating the separation of ions and impurities for effective water treatment. Beyond these applications, sulfonated PEEK is employed in high-performance capacitors, sensors, and various industries such as aerospace, automotive, and electronics, where its thermal resistance, chemical durability, and proton conductivity are essential for reliable performance in demanding environments.
