General description

Ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase binding protein (UQCRB) is a 13.3kDa protein and is a component of mitochondrial complex III. The UQCRB gene, with four exons spanning 4.5-5kb of genomic DNA, is mapped to human chromosome 8q22.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase binding protein (UQCRB) plays a crucial role in hypoxia-induced angiogenesis via mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated signaling. The encoded protein is also involved in the complex III stability, electron transport and cellular oxygen sensing. UQCRB functions as a potential target for anti-angiogenic and anti-tumor drug development. Loss of gene function is associated with the development of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis.
