フェニル-ヘキシル相には、芳香環およびその非局在化電子との溶質相互作用から生じる特有の選択性があります。フェニル-ヘキシル相はこの特有の芳香族性があるため、C18相とRPアミド相の両方に対して補完的（直交性）です。フェニル-ヘキシル相には良好な形状選択性を示す傾向もあり、これは平面リング系との溶質多点相互作用に起因する場合があります。芳香族電子求引基を持つ溶質、またはベンゾジアゼピン化合物などの非局在化複素環系を持つ溶質の場合、保持と選択性が向上することがよくあります（フッ素、二トロなど）。
