General description

Ticarcillin/Clavulanate (15/1) is an antibiotic compound which belongs to the class of compounds known as beta-lactamase inhibitor combinations. The mixture consists of two separate components - ticarcillin, a penicillin antibiotic, and clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor - in a fixed combination ratio of 15:1.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ticarcillin is a penicillin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which is necessary for growth and survival of bacterial cells. Specifically, it binds to the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the bacterial cell wall and blocks the formation of peptidoglycan, a key component of the bacterial cell wall. This leads to the weakening and eventual lysis of the bacterial ce
