General description

Baricitinib is an antibiotic which belongs to a class of compound called known as Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors. JAKs are tyrosine protein kinases that play an important role in pro-inflammatory signaling pathways.

Application

Baricitinib has been studied for its ability to inhibit Janus kinases (JAKs), which play a crucial role in the signaling pathways involved in inflammation and immune responses. JAK inhibitors like Baricitinib have potential applications in the treatment of a variety of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Baricitinib inhibits the activity of JAK enzymes, which are involved in cytokine signaling, leading to the suppression of inflammation and immune activation. Specifically, baricitinib inhibits JAK1 and JAK2 enzymes, which are associated with the signaling of different cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6), interferon gamma (IFN-gamma), and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). By inhibiting JAK enzymes, baricitinib reduces the activity of these cytokines and suppresses inflammation and immune activation.
