Features and Benefits

SK-MEL-103 is a human metastatic melanoma cell line that retains a Q61R NRAS mutation which is associated with a more aggressive phenotype, higher metastasis risk, and therefore a poorer prognosis.

Target description

Melanoma is considered the most dangerous form of skin cancer. It develops in melanocytes, the pigment producing cells of the skin. Melanoma accounts for a very small number of all skin cancers. Even though it accounts for only around 1% of total diagnosed skin cancer cases, it also results in the largest number of skin cancer deaths.3 Incidence rates have increased over time, however, mortality rates from melanoma have improved over the last decade due to advances in treatment.

SK-MEL-103 is a human metastatic melanoma cell line. It retains a Q61R NRAS mutation which is associated with a more aggressive phenotype, higher metastasis risk, and therefore a poorer prognosis.1 While there has been an improvement in understanding BRAF-mutant melanoma and its therapeutic strategies, solutions to NRAS-mutant melanoma have remained limited. Further development of immune therapies for NRAS-specific mutants remains highly relevant.

Storage and Stability

SK-MEL-103 cells should be stored in liquid nitrogen. The cells can be cultured for at least 10 passages without significantly affecting cell marker expression and function.
