General description
Ketjenblack® EC-300J is a highly pure carbon black known for its distinctive mesoporous structure, which results in a high surface area of approximately 800 m2/g (BET) and exceptional electronic conductivity.
Application
Ketjenblack® EC-300J is a versatile carbon black suitable for a wide range of antistatic and electroconductive applications. In research and development, it serves as a valuable support for electrocatalysts in fuel cell electrodes and as a conductive additive in battery electrodes. Due to its high surface area and its capability to form electronically conductive networks, Ketjenblackket® EC-300J is an excellent support for nanoparticle catalysts. The carbon′s stability at very high temperatures (>1000°C) allows for post-synthesis thermal treatment and annealing, adding an advantage to its use. Moreover, it plays a crucial role in the fabrication of battery electrodes, especially with nanoparticle cathode active materials, enhancing the electronic conductivity of the electrode film and subsequently improving battery performance. Ketjenblack® EC-300J can be challenging to disperse, especially in viscous media. For instance, when used in battery electrodes, it is recommended to first thoroughly disperse Ketjenblack® EC-300J in the solvent before incorporating PVDF binder or the cathode active material to minimize carbon agglomeration in the final composite.
